How much does a surf lesson cost in Lisbon and Cascais in 2026

One of the first things people look up before they start surfing is the price. That is natural: between private lessons, group lessons, packs, monthly plans and clinics, what is on offer in Lisbon and Cascais can look confusing. In this article we explain, plainly, what a surf lesson costs in 2026, what is included in the price, why the prices vary so much and how to choose the option that is most worth it for you.

Reference prices in Lisbon and Cascais in 2026

In the Lisbon region, a group surf lesson costs, as a rule, between 25 and 40 euros per person, and a private lesson between 45 and 70 euros. Packs of several lessons bring down the price per lesson, and monthly plans are the most economical way for anyone who wants to surf regularly. The difference between schools comes down to the ratio of students per coach, the length of the lesson, the quality of the equipment and the coaches' certification.

At Origem Surf School the prices are these:

  • Group lesson: 30 euros per person, 2 hours, a maximum of 5 students per coach.
  • Private lesson: 50 euros, 2 hours, one coach just for you.
  • Pack of 5 group lessons: 125 euros, that is, 25 euros per lesson.
  • Lessons for children: 30 euros per lesson, 125 euros for the pack of 5 and 80 euros for the monthly plan of one lesson a week, with a ratio of 1 coach to 3 children.
  • Surf clinics in the school holidays: from 130 euros per week (half day) and 170 euros for the full day.
  • Performance training with video analysis: 60 euros per session, 160 euros for 4 sessions or 100 euros for the monthly plan.

The up-to-date prices are always on the page for each service, for example on surf lessons, and they include VAT.

What is included in the price of a lesson

This is where schools differ most. A cheap lesson that includes neither a wetsuit nor a surfboard can cost more in the end. In our lessons the price always includes:

  • A softboard surfboard (foam), the safest and the easiest for learning.
  • A wetsuit suited to the season, with the right thickness for the water temperature.
  • Leash and wax.
  • A coach with a professional surfing coach licence (Cédula Profissional de Treinador de Surfing).
  • Personal accident insurance.
  • Two hours of lesson, with a warm-up on land, technique on the sand and time in the water.

You only need to bring swimwear, sunscreen and water.

Private lesson or group lesson: which is worth it?

A private lesson gives you 100 percent of the coach's attention for two hours. It is worth it if you have little time, if you want to correct a specific mistake, or if you feel unsure in the sea and would rather start with full supervision. A group lesson, with a maximum of five students, is more economical, more fun and more than enough to learn the basics. Most of our students start in a group and take one or two private lessons when they want to make a technical leap.

Packs and monthly plans: the mathematics of surfing

Learning to surf is a matter of repetition. A single lesson is enough to try it; five lessons are enough to catch waves on your own; twenty lessons are enough to surf the outside. That is why packs exist: the pack of 5 group lessons costs 125 euros, which works out at 25 euros per lesson, and it does not have a tight expiry. For anyone who wants to surf every week, the children's monthly plan (80 euros for four lessons) or the training plan (100 euros for four sessions) is the most economical option: it comes to 20 and 25 euros per session, respectively.

Why a surf lesson costs what it costs

It is worth understanding what sits behind the price. A serious school pays certified coaches, insurance, a tourism animation licence, maintenance of dozens of surfboards and wetsuits (which salt water and the sun destroy), transport of equipment and the time spent preparing each lesson, including reading the forecasts and choosing the beach. Low ratios, such as our 1 to 3 for children, mean fewer students per lesson and, therefore, a price per person that reflects more attention and more safety.

How to spend less without losing quality

  • Come in a group. Friends, family or work colleagues: a group lesson with four or five people who know each other is one of the best experiences there is.
  • Buy a pack. If you know you will take more than two lessons, the pack is worth it from the third.
  • Surf out of season. Autumn and winter have empty beaches and better waves, and we reschedule at no cost if the sea is not safe.
  • Make the most of the clinics. For children and young people, a week of clinic works out much cheaper than one-off lessons and includes surfing, skateboarding and stand-up paddle.
