The 2026 men's national surf title will be decided at the Bom Petisco Peniche Pro, the fifth and final event of the Liga MEO Surf, from 30 October to 1 November. The maths of the men's title
| Contender | What he needs to do in Peniche |
|---|---|
| Francisco Ordonhas (21 years old) | He is champion if he finishes at least 3rd (semifinals). It depends only on him. |
| Guilherme Ribeiro (24 years old) | He has to win the event and hope that Ordonhas does not reach the semifinals. |
The two main contenders
Francisco Ordonhas arrives wearing the ranking leader's yellow lycra, after winning the first two events of the year. He became national champion in 2025, in Peniche of all places, and is the current European junior champion.
Guilherme Ribeiro, from Costa de Caparica, is chasing his third national title (he has already won in 2022 and 2024). He arrives in good form: he was one of the Portuguese standouts at the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, where he competed as a wildcard and reached the quarterfinals (see the results).
Maria Salgado, national champion at 19
The surfer from Santa Cruz secured the women's title early at the Azores event, in June, at Praia do Monteverde (Ribeira Grande). It was the first national title of her career. She also won the women's Allianz Triple Crown trophy and was already a two-time national junior champion and European junior champion.
The 2026 circuit
The 16th edition of the Liga MEO Surf, organised by the Associação Nacional de Surfistas (ANS), had five events: Figueira da Foz (April), Porto (late April), Ericeira (late May), the Azores (June) and Peniche. The exact venue for the final, Supertubos or Lagide, depends on sea conditions. Recent men's champions were Frederico Morais (2020), Vasco Ribeiro (2021), Guilherme Ribeiro (2022 and 2024), Joaquim Chaves (2023) and Francisco Ordonhas (2025).
