Terms and conditions

Last updated: 29 September 2026.

These terms and conditions govern use of the site origemsurfschool.com and the booking of Origem Surf School services (surf lessons, lessons for children, surf clinics and surf training). By using the site or booking a service you accept these terms. Read them carefully; if you do not agree, do not use the site.

1. Who we are

Origem Surf School is a surf school operating in Cascais, Lisbon and Sintra, with coaches who hold a Cédula de Treinador de Surfing issued under Portuguese law. Contact: info@origemsurfschool.com, +351 210 990 816 and WhatsApp +351 914 011 673.

2. Services and pre-contractual information

The descriptions, levels, ages, duration and prices of each service are on the relevant pages of the site. Prices are shown in euros and include VAT at the legal rate in force. All services include the equipment stated (surfboard, wetsuit and leash), unless stated otherwise. We may change prices and conditions at any time; changes do not apply to bookings already confirmed.

3. Booking, confirmation and payment

  • Sending a request through the site forms, by email, phone or WhatsApp does not, by itself, constitute a booking. The booking is confirmed when you receive our written confirmation (email or message) with the date, time, meeting place and price.
  • Payment is made on the day of the lesson or by bank transfer before the lesson, as stated in the confirmation. We issue an invoice with the details you provide.
  • Packs and monthly plans are personal and non-transferable and have the validity stated in the confirmation.

4. Right of withdrawal

Lessons, clinics and training are leisure-activity services with a specific date or period of performance. Under Article 17(1)(l) of Decree-Law no. 24/2014 of 14 February (which transposes Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights), the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to these services, the right provided for contracts concluded at a distance. The cancellation and rescheduling conditions in the following section apply instead.

5. Cancellations, rescheduling and sea conditions

  • Safety comes first. If sea or weather conditions do not allow the lesson to be held safely, Origem Surf School reschedules the lesson at no cost or, if you prefer, refunds the amount already paid.
  • The exact place and time may change until the day before, depending on the tides and the best conditions, and are always communicated in advance.
  • The conditions and time limits for cancellation or rescheduling at the client's initiative are stated in the booking confirmation. Requests made within the stated time limit are rescheduled at no cost.
  • Absences without notice may mean the loss of the lesson or of the pack session, as stated in the confirmation.

6. Conditions of participation and safety

  • Participants must know how to swim and must not have health conditions incompatible with surfing. When you book, you declare that you, or the minor in your care, meet these requirements; if in doubt, consult a doctor.
  • Participants undertake to follow the coaches' instructions, the beach safety rules and good practice for sharing the sea. The coach may stop the lesson of anyone who puts their own safety or the safety of others at risk, with no right to a refund.
  • Minors. Bookings for minors are made by the parent or guardian, who authorises participation and is responsible for the information provided. In lessons for children the maximum ratio is three students per coach.
  • We recommend bringing swimwear, sunscreen, water and a change of clothes. We are not liable for personal items left on the beach.

7. Insurance

The activity is covered by personal accident insurance and civil liability insurance under the legislation applicable to tourism animation companies and to sporting activity. The data needed for the insurance is processed in accordance with our privacy policy. Any accident must be reported to the coach immediately.

8. Images and videos

In training with video analysis, the sessions are filmed for technical analysis and the files are shared with the athlete. We only publish photographs or videos of students on our social networks or on the site with prior written authorisation from the person concerned or, in the case of minors, from the parent or guardian, which may be withdrawn at any time.

9. Use of the site

  • You agree not to use the site for illegal purposes, not to introduce viruses or malicious code, not to attempt to access restricted areas and not to send false or bulk requests through the forms.
  • The forms have mechanisms to protect against automated submissions and submissions are logged for security purposes.
  • We may suspend or limit access to the site, in whole or in part, for maintenance or for security reasons.

10. Intellectual property

The name "Origem Surf School", the logo, the texts, the photographs, the videos and the site code belong to Origem Surf School or its licensors and are protected by copyright and industrial property law. You may view the site and share links to its pages; reproduction, modification or commercial use of any content requires written authorisation. Third-party logos (Turismo de Portugal, IPDJ, Federação Portuguesa de Surf) belong to the respective entities.

11. Blog content and accuracy of the information

Blog articles are for information and do not replace medical, nutritional or professional advice. We try to keep the information on the site up to date, but we do not guarantee the absence of errors or omissions; if you notice one, please tell us.

12. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, in particular for damage caused by wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or the rights that consumer law recognises for you. Within those limits, we are not liable for damage arising from the site being unavailable, from the content of third-party sites to which there are links, or from the participant's failure to follow the safety instructions.

13. Data protection

The processing of your personal data is described in the privacy and cookie policy, which forms an integral part of these terms.

14. Complaints and dispute resolution

  • Complaints Book (Livro de Reclamações). We have a complaints book in physical and electronic form. You can submit your complaint at www.livroreclamacoes.pt.
  • Alternative dispute resolution. Under Law no. 144/2015, in the event of a consumer dispute you may turn to an alternative dispute resolution body. For Cascais, Lisbon and Sintra the competent body is the Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo de Lisboa (www.centroarbitragemlisboa.pt). The updated list of bodies is on the Consumer Portal, at www.consumidor.gov.pt. In low-value disputes, arbitration is mandatory for the provider when the consumer chooses it.
  • Before you use these routes, please contact us: most situations are resolved with a conversation.

15. Applicable law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Portuguese law. Without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules and to alternative dispute resolution, for any matter arising from these terms the competent court is the court of the consumer's domicile or, in other cases, the court of the Comarca de Lisboa Oeste.

16. Changes

We may change these terms to adapt them to the law or to our services. The version in force is always the one published on the site, with the date at the top. Confirmed bookings are governed by the terms in force on the date of confirmation.
